Where I come from

In Africa, there is fifty four countries and an isle
In the center of  this continent, there is a country called D.R.C ( Democratic Republic of Congo)     This country has many national parks with rare animals
It means there is many sight places for tourists
The weather is just perfect, not too cold not too hot
Life in community is one of the value
People are friendly
And care about religion
That is where I'm from

Memories in our society

  1. In what ways do we perceive memories in our society?

In our society, memories take an important place, and can be compared to history. In other words, memories determine our future based on our knowledge of the past. In the same way, memories are the key to development, because scientists based their discovery on what people did in the past and try to improve it. Also, each culture all over the world has a different way to conserve his memories. For example, memories were conserved on paper called papyrus in ancient Egypt. Nowadays, people tend to use technology to conserve memories.

2. What do you think would be different in the world if we only had one-generation memories?

Having only one-generation memories would make everything different. First, people would not know their rooth, and where they come from. This fact can be illustrated by the french idiom that says a nation without history is a nation which tend to disappear. Also, the  same mistakes that occured in the past would be repeated, because people had no ideas about what happened before. In addition, technology would not progess. For example, people may still spend many months to travel by boat instead of using planes, because planes don't exist.

3. Do you have any questions about how the rules of your society or any society?

My questions are why most of the rules only applied on poor people not everybody? why this inequality and this injustice?

The best lesson my parents ever taught me

Since I was a child, my parents used to tell me "if someone hurts you, you have only two options, you can either be nice or don't do anything to him. Do not change your personality depends on the way people act toward you". At the beginning, I disagreed with them, because I always though that if someone hurts me, I have to hurt him back, so this person would know how I felt. But after a while, I discovered that my way of thinking was wrong. When I decided to apply this advice, I found out that this lesson changed my way of viewing the society, and my relation with people around me.

Nowadays, this lesson totally transform me. Before, I was  pessimistic, now it is the opposite. In the same way, I always have a positive mind, because I don't waste my time anymore thinking about what people have done to me, and how to get it back to them. In the same way, this perspective helps keep good relations with other people. Sometimes, people hurt others on purpose, just to make them angry. Being passive is a sign of maturity. However, I will always be thankful to my parents for teaching me this lesson, making me understand what is important in life and making me become mature.

Stretching Your Positive Mind

Being in this country has many good aspects. First, at MEI the environment is really comfortable for learning. People make you feel at ease, try to help you as much as they can if you have any problems and really care about you. Also, the program is intense and help us to get used with the American university life. However, we don't always focus on studies, they try to show us that even if studies are important, there is a time to relax and destress. We have to know how to balance between studies and entertainment. Finally, this country is a mix of many cultures and it is interesting to learn about others customs and habit.

Aditionally, we learn how to manage things. In my country, I was not able to achieve my differents task most of the time. But now I am able to make it without any problems. In the same way, the fact of having many things to do and not enough time to make it, made me more conscientious, responsible and organized than before.

Being Alone

Nowadays, most of people like being alone for some reasons such as they are too busy, technology help them keeping in touch with others or they just need a private space. I disagree with them, however, I think that sometimes everybody need to be apart from others, think about his life or his future.

First, I think it's not convenient to live alone because people are made to live in society. In the same way, nobody can pretend being able to live by himself, and be isolated, we always need other's presence. Next, an isolated pers will recognize the importance of living with others when he will be in trouble or need help. However, a psychology research states "Social isolation is a huge risk factor for the onset of major depression, which has more than doubled in prevalence over the past decade.  And there's growing evidence that isolation increases vulnerability to various forms of addiction, as well"(2009). In my case, I can't live alone separate from the rest of the world, because in african's customs we are used to spend most of our time with family members and friends.

Finally it's helpful to spend a little time himself. By the end of the day, it's helpful to think about what we have done during the day, to try to avoid the mistake we have made for the following day, and also try to make plan for the future. People around can easily understand, because it is a useful process.

A perfect World

The concept of a perfect world depends on everyone. For some,  the perfection is what they are trying to reach, and for others it is what they will never be but just admire, so for those people a perfect world is a place where all their needs will be fulfilled. When I'm asked to describe a perfect world, what comes on my mind is a world without discrimination, violence and suffering.

First, discrimination or stereotype makes people feel frustrated and less important. For example in many countries, you can be denied in a company because of your believes, your gender, your race or opinions; even if you seem to be hardworking and really intelligent. Those kind of things don't have to happen, because it destroys the cohesion that can exist between people.
In the same way, we have to learn to accept and respect each other as he is. Also a society strength can be in his diversity, everyone can bring something new to help the society to develop.

One of the consequence of discrimination is violence. Violence brings people to hate each other, to become suspicious and don't feel safe. Also, they don't respect others and can easily commit crime if they are not happy or agree with someone. This fact can be the result of  pain or anger; for example if someone  needs a job, and he knows that he was denied because of his gender, race, religion or opinions, he can become violent and do something bad.
Even media participates to violence diffusion. Children can see violent movies and think that is normal to kill people or beat others, as a result they can easily reproduce what they have seen.
In addition, war between different nations doesn't simplify the peace that can reign between them. People don't feel safe enough in their own country while it is the most comfortable place where they can feel at ease.  Some authorities are dictators and don't want people to have free speech, so if you say something against the government even if they don't act correctly you can be killed. Dictatorship doesn't care about population.

Finally, suffering is the most common factor that affects the world. In many countries, especially in third world countries, there are people starving and thirsty, they need help. Everyone must have access to his basic needs, such as food, water and medical care. It's a little bit sad that we have some people living in castle while others don't even have place to sleep. Moreover, some people are subject to stress at work place and don't live in good conditions, this can lead to some  painful diseases, and they spend all their money to be heal.

In conclusion, all those factors are related and complete each others. When they are put together, they constitute my perfect world definition. As everybody know, it is impossible to get the perfection, this concept is an utopia. Then we have to learn to live in this world and try to survive. A famous  British scientist named Charles Darwin said in his theory of evolution that in this world, only the strongest ones will survive. Instead of dreaming about the perfection, we must learn to live in the world we have.
